Book a free fifteen-minute consultation through the online scheduler. We talk, you ask questions, and if it feels like a fit we schedule a first full session. Intake paperwork happens in the secure client portal and takes about ten minutes.
What does a first session look like?
Mostly me listening. We talk about what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different. You do not need to prepare anything or have it organized. By the end we will have a rough sense of direction.
Do I have to know what is wrong before I book?
No. "Something is off and I cannot name it" is a completely reasonable starting point and a very common one. Part of the work is figuring out what we are actually dealing with.
How often will we meet?
Most people start weekly, which builds momentum. Some move to every other week once things stabilize. We decide together based on what you need and what is realistic.
Logistics, Cost & Coverage
Where do you see clients?
Everywhere in Texas. All sessions are online by secure video. You need to be physically located in Texas at the time of the session, since that is what my license covers.
What do I need for an online session?
A device with a camera, a decent internet connection, and a private place where you will not be overheard. Headphones help. That is it.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes. This is the standard "therapeutic hour”, enough time to settle in, do meaningful work together, and close with intention, while leaving a few minutes for your therapist to prepare fully for the next client. If you're ever curious about longer sessions or a different cadence, just ask; we're happy to talk through what would serve you best.
Do you take insurance?
We are currently a private-pay practice, which allows us to keep the focus entirely on your care rather than on what an insurance company will authorize. That said, we're actively working through the credentialing process with several insurance providers and hope to offer in-network coverage very soon. In the meantime, we're happy to discuss rates and payment options during your free consultation.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens; we understand that schedules shift and things come up. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we simply ask for at least 24 hours' notice so we can offer that time to another client who may be waiting. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged 50% of the session fee. If something truly unexpected arises, please reach out, we'll always do our best to work with you.
Confidentiality & Fit
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with a small number of legal exceptions I will explain in the first session, including situations involving risk of serious harm. Because I am an LPC Associate, my clinical work is reviewed by my supervisor, Rhonda Septelka, LPC-S, as part of standard supervision. Supervision is confidential and is a normal part of clinical practice.
What does LPC Associate mean?
It means I have completed my graduate training and am licensed by the State of Texas to provide counseling while completing my supervised clinical hours toward full licensure. My work is overseen by Rhonda Septelka, LPC-S, an approved clinical supervisor. In practice it means you get a licensed clinician plus a second experienced set of eyes on your care.
Is online therapy as effective as in person?
For most of what I treat, research shows comparable outcomes. What matters more than the format is the fit between you and your therapist. The free consultation exists so you can test that before committing to anything.
What if we are not a good fit?
Then I will tell you, and I will help you find someone better suited. That is not a failure, it is the system working. Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy outcomes.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Counselors do not prescribe. If medication seems worth exploring, I can coordinate with your physician or refer you to a psychiatric provider.
What if I am in crisis?
This practice is not an emergency service and messages are not monitored around the clock. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911.
