Therapy for High-Functioning Stress

Anxiety therapy techniques for racing thoughts and worry

Looking Fine and Feeling Depleted

Some people have learned to function exceptionally well while silently carrying overwhelming stress. You manage the responsibilities, meet the expectations, and show up for everyone else. Nobody around you would guess how depleted you feel doing it.

That competence is real, and it also makes it easy for the cost to go unnoticed, including by you. Therapy offers a space to slow down, look at it honestly, and restore some balance without your life falling apart in the meantime.

This Might Be You If

What We Work On

The Gap Between Outside and Inside

Closing the distance between how you present and how you actually feel.

Chronic Overfunctioning

Looking at what you are carrying that is not actually yours to carry.

Being the Reliable One

Untangling identity from usefulness so support can flow in both directions.

Minimizing Your Own Needs

Learning to register a need before it becomes a crisis.

Rest Without Collapse

Building recovery into the week rather than crashing on the other side of it.

Asking for Help

Practical work on the thing that is often hardest for competent people.

Questions About This Work

Am I struggling enough to need therapy?

This question is itself one of the most common symptoms of high-functioning stress. You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Waiting until you are is the pattern we would be working on.

Will I have to stop being the capable one?

No. The goal is not to make you less capable. It is to stop capability from being the only mode available to you, and to make sure it is a choice rather than a survival strategy.

How is this different from regular anxiety therapy?

A lot overlaps. The difference is emphasis. High-functioning stress work spends more time on the ways competence hides distress, and on the identity questions that come up when you consider letting go of some of it.
